Fun Fact- Apollo 12, Nov 19,1967

On this day in 1969 the second manned mission to the moon, Apollo12, landed in the “Ocean of Storms.” (Oceanus Procellarum)  

This precision landing, commanded and executed by Charles (Pete) Conrad Jr,  landed within walking distance of the Surveyor III spacecraft.

Along with Conrad, his crew,  Richard F Gordon (Command module pilot) and Alan L Bean (Lunar module pilot) primary missions objectives were to:

•             Perform inspection, survey and sampling in lunar mare area

•             Deploy an Apollo Lunar Surface Experiment Package (ALSEP).

•             Develop techniques for a point landing capability

•             Develop capability to work in the lunar environment

•             Obtain photographs of candidate exploration sites

Secondary objective was to the retrieve portions of the Surveyor III spacecraft.

Apollo 12 and its crew returned to earth on November 24, 1969.
